BIO

Murray is an architect, a sculptor and a poet.

He has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Melbourne, where he graduated in 1985. Since 1993, he has run a boutique architectural practice, “Murray Dowty Architect” specializing in bespoke residential work. He was born in Cooma in the Snowy Mountains of NSW, was educated in Melbourne and has since lived in Jordan, London, Perth and Brisbane. He currently resides and practices in Melbourne, where he completed his Graduate Certificate in Art in Public Space with distinction at RMIT and Certificate in Art of the MOOC: Public Art and Pedagogy with Honours from Duke University.

His sculptural work has been exhibited in Western Australia, Queensland and New South Wales in curated exhibitions. His first public work was exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea at Cottesloe, Western Australia in 2007 and then when he moved to Brisbane he started showing pieces at the Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane, where he won the Metcalfe award in 2014 for his Wimmera series and a Highly Commended award in 2015. He has had two solo exhibitions at the Metcalfe Gallery, Brisbane, 2016, 2017.

His work is held in several private and public collections.
